Paphiopedilum: Slipper orchid

Type: Terrestrial.

Paphiopedilum (Slipper orchid) Features: Stemless with short leaves growing from the rhizome. Upright flower stalk topped with one long-lasting flower any time of year, depending on type. They are 5-9cm (2-31/2in) across with a waxy sheen. The uppermost sepal is usually in a contrasting colour to the petals, and the lip is pouched. 

Size: 15-30cm (6-12in) tall.

Special needs: Moderate light; high humidity; intermediate to cool temp.; water moderately; foliar feed fortnightly.
